Research
Nathan obtained a PhD in 2013 for a thesis entitled ‘Molecular biomarker discovery and physiological assessment of skeletal muscle in cancer cachexia’. This was subsequently awarded the Syme Medal and he maintains an active research interest in surgery, cachexia, surgical oncology, body composition, nutrition, and quality improvement. He has >20 peer-reviewed publications and has given >60 presentations and invited lectures/seminars at regional, national and international levels. He is also involved in projects that promote physical activity for health and disease prevention.
Additionally, he co-authored modules for the Edinburgh Surgical Sciences Qualification and continues to act as an on-line tutor (2007 – present). He has been an expert grant reviewer and acts as a reviewer for several scientific journals.
